Easter Banquet

I am sure many of you know or have already noticed; like every year at the end of the term, we are going to have our traditional Easter Banquet.

It will be held on Monday the 14th of March, and as usual there will be the finest food the college can provide, there will be jazz music, dancing, Easter eggs, a lot of your favourite people to chat with and, most importantly, there will be plenty alcohol for you to actually enjoy them. (Sorry Claudio, I had to steal this punchline)

The booking for college members will open 14 FEB at 10:30. Guest booking opens a fortnight later, 28 FEB at 22:30, and you’ll be able to book for your beloved guest (I’ll send a reminder one hour before the booking opens).

Ah yes, to build up the hype a little bit, here is the menu:

Seared Scallops, Butter Bean & Truffle Puree, Apple & Watercress
Ravioli of Wild Mushroom, Fennel Oil, Dried Black Olives & Toasted Pine Nuts (V)
***
Beef Fillet, Confit Ox Cheek, Butternut Squash Puree, Burnt Shallots & Purple Broccoli
Deep Fried Hen Egg, Asparagus, Peas, Broad Beans & Black Truffle & Cepe Puree (V)
***
Coconut & White Chocolate Fondant with Alphonso Mango & Candied Chilli
***
Section of Artisan Cheese with Assorted Crispbreads
***
Coffee & Chocolate Truffles

I hope that covers pretty much everything, but if you do have any questions, please don’t be afraid to shoot me an email, I’ll do my best to reply quickly.

May the odds be ever in your favour.

Best wishes,
Philipp

Cantabs for Persecuted Scholars

We, the Magdalene MCR Committee, fully support this petition and stand in solidarity with persecuted scholars everywhere. We also encourage other student organisations within the University of Cambridge, and their respective members, to take this petition under consideration.

Briefly, the petition calls upon the University of Cambridge and its colleges to commit publicly to supporting at-risk academics granted admittance to the University of Cambridge in the form of financial, housing, and other support. Generous assistance in times of need embodies the spirit the University’s mission “to contribute to society through pursuit of education, learning, and research at the highest international levels of excellence.” We believe that close cooperation with established charities is the best way of standing by these treasured values.

For more information, and to sign the petition please click here.

Please also consider donating to our crowd-funding effort to fund a bursary for an at-risk or refugee student to pursue Masters study at Cambridge: www.gofundme.com/28svwxhw

Magdalene Ceilidh

The Magdalene MCR is pleased to announce that it will hold it’s annual Ceilidh on 22 January 2015 starting at 8.30pm in Cripps Court.

Ceilidh

It’s BURNS NIGHT on Friday, so come Ceilidh with us! Don’t know what Burns Night is? Don’t know what a Ceilidh is? Never fear, for all shall be revealed.Traditionally Burns Night is a night in which one celebrates the life and works of the Scottish poet Robert Burns – but in Cambirdge it’s become a night to celebrate in wonderful Scottish fashion. Following our Burns Night formal dinner (haggis! yum), the MCR is hosting a Ceilidh – an absolute Burns Nigh must! What’s a Ceilidh, you might ask? It’s only the most fun you’ll have in Cripps Court all year (and that’s a fact!). Ceilidh’s are exuberant Scottish/Irish dancing parties, where the fiddles sing and the caller gets us all to dance to classic Scottish/Irish dance moves. Ceilidh’s are endless fun of reeling and dancing and laughing your head off at your own two left feet. No dance experience required! Only much enthusiasm.

So come joing the MCR and reel the night away!

Entrance: 5 pounds

Open to non-MCR members.

Christmas Banquet

At the end of the term we are going to have our traditional Christmas banquet.

It will be on Monday the 7th of December, and as usual there will be the finest food the college can provide, there will be music, there will be a lot of interesting people to chat with and, most important, there will be more than enough alcohol.

The booking for college members will open during this weekend, and one week later you’ll be also able to book for your beloved guests (I’ll send a reminder one hour before the booking opens).

Once you’ve booked, please let me know if you have any seating preferences[*] and I’ll do my best to accommodate as many requests as possible (no need to tell me you want to sit next to your guests, that’s obvious even for me).

The price will be £30.50 for students and £35.85 for guests, all directly charged on your college bill.

Last but not least, here is the menu:

Smoked Salmon & Crayfish with Coriander & Cucumber Salad

Mushroom & Chive Soup (v)

**

Traditional Roasted Norfolk Turkey, Natural Gravy with Chestnut Stuffing, Chipolatas, Roast Potatoes

Butternut Squash, Spinach & Walnut Tart, Crushed New Potatoes with Chives (v)

All Served with Roasted Winter Vegetables & Brussels Sprout

**

Dark Chocolate & Orange Tart with Vanilla Cream

**

Section of Cheese with Biscuits, Grapes and Celery

**

Coffee and Mince Pies

If you have any dietary requirements, please let me know[*] as soon as you book, or before the 4th of December at the latest.

That should cover pretty much everything, if you have any question, just drop me an email and I’ll be happy to reply

May the odds be ever in your favour,
Claudio

[*] For the seating preferences, use the subject: “Christmas Banquet – Seating – CrsID”, and state in the email your full name and the name of all the people next to whom you want (or don’t want) to sit (aka no nicknames, please).

For the dietary requirements, use the subject: “Christmas Banquet – Dietary – CrsID”.
If you have both seating and dietary requirements, don’t be scared in sending me two emails. I’d rather have double the amount of emails in the right format than less messy emails. Thanks for your cooperation

Guy Fawkes Fireworks
